Underground Railroad: Journey to Freedom

An immersive journey through US history

Created in partnership with National Geographic Education, this award-winning game is an immersive and engaging journey through United States history.  Underground Railroad: Journey to Freedom is a “choose your own adventure” style game that incorporates 3-D experiences and an interactive map tracking the player’s progress. Every choice they make affects the outcome of the game.

As a slave on a tobacco plantation on the eastern shore of Maryland players begin the game preparing to embark on their journey to freedom.  Played from a first-person perspective, the game pulls you into the action as you escape and head north.  Along the route, players meet key historical figures who were an actual part of the Underground Railroad and make critical decisions that will lead to one of several possible outcomes.  This blend of gameplay and story create a rich historical experience that fits in a single classroom period and works for multiple age-groups.

Underground Railroad: Journey to Freedom is available for computers and tablets, and can be obtained from the Mac app store or downloaded from NatGeo’s website.
